School & Community Relations

APS School TalkAPS School Talk Access

Arlington Public Schools keeps in touch with parents and the community through our messaging system, APS School Talk (administered by the vendor AlertNow). If you are a parent of a student in Arlington Public Schools, you are automatically signed up for School Talk when you fill out the registration forms in your First-Day Packet. The best way to ensure that your School Talk account is correct is to accurately complete your First-Day Packet forms, online or on paper. *If you are having trouble with your School Talk account, please call your school and ask the registrar to confirm that your information is correct in the student database.

Community members (without children in the school system) may also sign up for School Talk to receive messages about the school district or specific schools.

SPECIAL INTEREST LISTS
We also have a number of special interest lists which you may sign up for (Aquatics, Special Education, etc.). These Special Interest lists are separate from your School Talk account, although messages will still come from APSSchoolTalk@apsva.us.

NEW SCHOOL TALK FEATURES:
The new features for School Talk include the capability to send voice and email messages in pre-selected languages. Voice and email messages can be sent in English and Spanish, and text messages can be sent in English. Other languages are also available. Although not all of the languages spoken by APS families are included, it does give us a place to start. We will add more languages as they become available from the vendor.

In addition, because subscribers can now indicate their student's ID, APS leaders can send messages to parents with targeted information. For example, we can tell parents about issues such as significant delays on your student's bus route, news about individual class activities and field trips for student(s), and district, school or classroom news appropriate for each subscriber's individual student(s). And as students move through the grade levels and school levels, APS School Talk will automatically update subscribers so that information is provided appropriately for each student.

THANK YOU
With over 23,000 APS School Talk subscribers, there have been unexpected complications as we transitioned to this new system, so we thank you for your patience during this conversion. We believe this change will strengthen our communication services and help us expand our news delivery options for APS School Talk subscribers.

Don't forget to add APSSchoolTalk@apsva.us to your trusted list in your email address book!
