World Languages

StudentsThere are seven languages offered across Arlington Public Schools at the secondary level.  In addition, the Spanish Immersion Program continues at the secondary level.

 

Program Goals and Standards:

       

Goal 1: Communication

Use knowledge and language skills for functional communication.

Goal 2: Cultures

Gain knowledge of other cultural perspectives and practices.

Goal 3: Connections

Connect foreign language study to experiences in other curricular areas to personal interests.

Goal 4: Comparisons

Compare the target language and culture with their own language and culture.

Goal 5: Communities

       Use the language and apply learning to the world beyond the classroom.

Secondary Level - Middle School:

  • Arabic I, II*
  • Chinese I, II*
  • French I, II
  • German I, II (H.B. Woodlawn only)
  • Japanese I, II* (H.B. Woodlawn only)
  • Latin I, II*
  • Spanish Immersion Grades 6-8 (Gunston), Spanish for Fluent Speakers I, II, Transitional Spanish Grade 6 and Spanish I, II

Secondary Level - High School:

  • Arabic I, II, III, IV, V*
  • Chinese I, II, III, IV, V-AP*
  • French I, II, III, IV, V, VI, V-AP, VI-AP, International Baccalaureate (I.B. available at Washington-Lee)
  • German I, II, III, IV, IV-AP, V-AP*
  • Japanese I, II, III, IV*
  • Latin I, II, III, IV, V, IV-AP, V-AP, International Baccalaureate (I.B. available at Washington-Lee)
