  • Moby learns about National Wildlife Refuges

Posted by Margaret Frick at 4/11/2012
Did you know that Moby has a lot to learn about Wildlife Refuges?  Students in Mr. Foster's class researched refuges and created a script based on one of our favorite resources.  Thank you Mrs. Shaw for filming and creating our video.

  • Dragon Scales -- January Family Library Night

Posted by Margaret Frick at 1/18/2012
Last night many Barrett students and families participated in a gigantic recycling project.  Mrs. Sauter-Price kicked off the Barrett Family Book Group project with a Chinese New Years theme.  Students viewed a Chinese New Year story and then started making dragon scales.  When the art work is put together, Barrett will have the longest recycled Chinese New Year Dragon!  To inspire the artists, a display of recycled art hung above the coat racks in the back of the room.  Everyone went home with a fortune cookie and a good fortune.

First Grade classes have read tons of Gingerbread stories and variations in the month of December.  Now they are using the Cookie Doodle app to make their own virtual gingerbread cookies.  Here are some students from Ms. Tu's and Mrs. LiGuidi's classes at work.

  • Making a head at Library Night

Posted by Margaret Frick at 11/17/2011
There was a flurry of activity at Library Night, when sculptor Joseph Mullins showed the students how to create a clay head.  While he demoed the steps, families took to molding clay.  Mrs. Streeter has over 200 heads to fire in the kiln after they dry.  It was fun to learn a new way to illustrate books!

Mrs. Garman's 3rd grade enrichment students have been working on researching animals that inhabit Patuxent National Wildlife Refuge.  They used iPod touch apps and the internet to do their research.  Look for their animal posters in the library or outside Mrs. Garman's room.
