PTA

Welcome to the Washington-Lee High School PTA

HELP MAKE YOUR CHILD'S HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCE BE THE BEST IT CAN BE.
GET INVOLVED WITH THE WASHINGTON-LEE PTA, AS WE WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE A GREAT SCHOOL EVEN BETTER.

No Sweat Fundraiser Please support the PTA today with a tax-deductible donation to our "No Sweat" Fundraiser. Click here for the donation form.

"I know I should be involved in the school, but how can I possibly squeeze in the time to make one more batch of brownies or give two more hours of my time to help out at a school activity?"

Here are the reasons for you to make this a priority:

1.      Research shows that students with parents or guardians who are involved in their child's education will do better.

2.      We put on many programs to benefit the kids and make the high school experience better that require adult assistance.

3.      We can match volunteer activities to your preferences and time schedule.

4.      We engage in fundraising to provide resources to teachers for important programs and supplemental initiatives through our grants program that may otherwise go unfunded.  Click here to see the list of grants approved in 2010-2011, and see the January 2012 PTA meeting minutes for grants approved already in 2011-2012, with more to be approved during the second half of the year.

5.      It's a great way to connect with other parents, and it's fun!

Parents of incoming 9th grade students
Here are activities offered over the summer to prepare you, and your child, for attending high school at W-L.
  • Freshman Parent Chats ondates to be determined.  Chats will run from 7-8:30pm.
The chats provide an opportunity for parents to meet with school administrators, teachers and the PTA to learn about Washington-Lee High School.
  • Freshmen/new student tours on dates to be determined at 1:30pm at Washington-Lee

For more information to prepare for the freshman year, go to the Small Learning Community webpage.  And be sure to join the PTA list serve and Class of 2016 list serve (information below) to stay connected.

You know it's important to engage with your child's school and the PTA.  It's easy.  Here are ways you can get involved:

1. Join the PTA and peruse this web site to learn what we're doing for your kids and your school. The cost per family is $10. You can get the application in the Forms tab and mail it to us with your dues (check payable to W-L PTA), or you will receive membership information in the First Day Packet. Fill it out and return it in the same packet that first week of school.

2. Support our "No Sweat Fundraiser" or our Senior Class Supplemental Fundraiser. Much of the PTA dues go to the national & state PTA, but these funds stay at W-L and are used by the PTA to provide programs throughout the year. You can make a real difference for the W-L students by writing a check.  Contact Donna Crawford, PTA President, at WLPTA@hotmail.com.

3. Get connected by e-mail. Signup now to be on our main PTA List Serve and our PTA Grade Level List Serves. You'll receive timely information about PTA school events and activities twice a week in the PTA Newsletter.
