Welcome – or welcome back – to Swanson!
On behalf of the PTA, welcome to the new school year! We encourage you to become an active participant in the Swanson community by participating in the various PTA-sponsored activities throughout the this school year and by attending the PTA meetings scheduled for Tuesdays at 7:00 pm on September 11, October 9, November 13, December 11, January 8, February 12, March 12, April 9 and May 14. If you haven’t already done so, join the PTA listserv to keep abreast of the goings-on at Swanson and within Arlington Public Schools by sending an email to swanson-pta-subscribe@yahoogroups.com from the account where you want to receive emails from the PTA. You can leave the subject and message blank. You should get an email confirmation from Yahoo that provides instructions on how to complete the registration. Respond to that email and you will be added to the list. If you have any questions, please contact Stacy Collins at mstacycollins@verizon.net.
The Swanson PTA depends upon the support of its parents in many ways. The first way you can show your support is to fill out the E-Z form (click here)
. This form, which also was included in your child’s first day packet, allows you to:
- Join the PTA;
- Update your school directory information;
- Order a school directory; and
- Contribute to our primary PTA fundraiser, Dollars for Scholars
-- all in one click – or with one check!
Dollars for Scholars funds support Swanson students and staff through teacher educational grants, book fair student vouchers, teacher appreciation week activities, in-service day breakfasts for staff, Swanson grounds beautification, science fair support and production of the Anchor newsletter (click here), to name only a few activities.
Swanson and its PTA rely on parent volunteers to do a great many things that foster academic excellence and well-rounded students: chaperone field trips, help at school sporting events, assist with music and drama programs, work at the book fair, organize the 8th grade promotion dance and contribute to the newsletter (click here for committee descriptions). Please let us know your interest areas by filling out the volunteer form (click here).
