American Association of University Women recognizes Maritza on the Fritz!![]() The American Association of University Women (AAUW) annually recognizes programs in the arts in Arlington's public Middle and High Schools. In 2013, Gunston Drama teacher Caitlin Chapuis and 8th Grade English teacher John Stewart are the winners of the $500 award for their production of Maritza on the Fritz.Fifty students participated in the premier of the new work. Students were able to shape the play, suggest alternative lines and blocking, and develop their own costumes, thus participating in the creative process, themselves. The production played to packed houses for two nights. The three-act play tells the wacky story of an overnight field trip gone wrong. Maritza, an organized and efficient teacher, tries to keep a motley crew of students in line, until she breaks down herself and must be saved by those around her. The Arlington Branch of AAUW is pleased to honor their work with the Elizabeth Campbell Award for Excellence in the Arts in the Arlington Public Schools. The will receive their awards at a luncheon at Army Navy Country Club on May 4. Congratulations to all the Gunston participants in this production and to their leaders, Caitlin Chapuis and John Stewart. Virginia ESL Supervisors (VESA) Conference Presenters
