Virginia Society for Technology in Education’s (VSTE) Student Technology Integration Challenge (STIC) announced that students from Mrs. Ahern’s and Ms. Sterner’s 2011-12 class were first place winners. VSTE started this competition in 2011 to encourage teachers and students to share the great products they are creating using technology to support the standards of learning. Ms. Sterner’s class won in the 3-5 grade multimedia category for their Voicethread project The Voice and Mrs. Ahern’s class won in the K-2 grade multimedia category for their Ancient China and Ancient Egypt paper slide videos. The 2012 National Blue Ribbon School Award from the U.S. Department of Education was awarded to Arlington Traditional School. ATS is one of 269 Schools nationwide to receive the honor. ATS was named a Five Star School by School Digger (a K-12 web-based search tool for parents). They ranked second out of 1,067 Virginia public elementary schools. Studies show that parents and teachers working in tandem on behalf of students is a winning combination, one exemplified by the dedicated staff and committed families who support our students through the ATS PTA.
