Kimberly Gomez
Hi, I am Kim Gomez and thrilled to be a teacher here at Barrett Elementary! I am originally from Richmond, Virginia and from there decided to go to college at Texas A&MUniversity to major in elementary education. Go Aggies! I have been teaching since 2003 and have always taught first or second grade. I have my certificate in teaching English Language Learners, as well as my Gifted and Talented endorsement. I have also completed my reading endorsement from George MasonUniversity and am working this year to get my masters in Advanced Studies in Teaching and Learning. I enjoy spending time with friends and family, running, and watching football! I am looking forward to forming a wonderful relationship with each of the students within my class, and on getting to know all of our great families! We are going to have a fantastic year!
Elizabeth (Jane) Jurkevics
Hello families!
I'd like to tell you a little about myself. I moved from Toronto, Canada to Arlington in 1989 and have lived here ever since. I love Arlington and I have enjoyed watching the county grow and change. I have four daughters who attended Arlington County public schools!
Before returning to college to obtain my teaching certificate I spent seven years as a teaching assistant in Arlington schools. I am a graduate of Marymount University in Arlington and am now very excited to be a part of Arlington County Public Schools as a teacher. I am even more delighted to be a part of the Barrett community!
I wish to impart to my students the knowledge that he or she contributes to the world in his or her own way and that each has great worth as an individual. I think Joseph Campbell put it best when he said, “The job of an educator is to teach students to see vitality in themselves.”
I am looking forward to a wonderful year with my new students!
Please note: Though my first name appears on my email (Elizabeth) I would be happy for you to call me Jane (my middle name)!
Zachary Porter
Hello, my name is Zach Porter and I am very excited to be a teacher here at Barrett Elementary! I’m a proud native of Arlington, Virginia (I went to McKinley, Swanson, and Yorktown). I then went to school at Denison University in Ohio where I got a degree in History. I came back to the DC area and worked for a non-profit for 3 years. Eventually, I went back to school and got a Masters in Elementary Education. In 2012 I joined Barrett Elementary in fifth grade. At home I spend a lot of time taking my dog to the park. I also love to cook, jog, hike, and cheer for the Caps, Nats, and Redskins. I am very excited for the new school year!
Jeannie Landgraf
Hello, I am Jeannie Landgraf. I am very excited to have joined the Barrett Second Grade Team! I grew up in Washington D.C. where I graduated from American University in 2005 with my Masters in Teaching. I am currently attending George Mason University to earn a Certificate as a Reading Specialist. My husband is in the Army and so we have been able to travel the United States. I have taught in North Carolina, Arizona, and Virginia. I have mainly taught Third and Second Grade. We are so excited to be back in the area where we enjoy taking our dog Benson to the dog park and the rich culture of the area. I hope to instill in my students a love for learning where they become lifelong learners. I look forward to an exciting year!
