The Career Advancement Program
Information About CAP
The Career Advancement Program (CAP) is a knowledge and skills based differentiated compensation program that rewards full time T-Scale staff that demonstrate and document high quality professional practice and leadership that cultivates student achievement. CAP was approved into policy in April 2007 by the School Board.
Participation in CAP is voluntary and requires the completion of one, two, or all of three portfolio opportunities, designed to challenge and engage T-Scale staff in a rigorous process of enhancing their knowledge and skills through substantive professional development and experiences. Two of the portfolios are locally developed and the third is National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification. How will you know if any past professional development in which you have participated counts towards CAP?Electronic Registrar Online (ERO) has been updated to include information about the APS Department of Instruction offerings that count toward CAP. Follow these easy steps to check your progress in meeting the CA P requirements for professional development:
- From the APS website, click on “Staff Resources.”
- Under “Staff Resources,” find the Electronic Registrar Online (ERO) link and click to open the ERO homepage.
- Log in to ERO. (Your ITC should be able to help you with this, if you are not sure what your log in is.)
- Once logged in, click on the “My Transcript” tab.
- Your transcript should now reflect each course that you have signed up for through ERO, which CAP requirements it may meet, and the number of CAP hours for which the course will be counted.
- You can click on the certificate link to print a copy of this for your records.
Only courses that have been offered through APS Department of Instruction will be visible in ERO. While some coursework taken through a university may count toward the CAP requirements, individuals will have to obtain a transcript and course syllabus from the university and contact the Professional Development Office (Extension 2113) for more information.
