  • Students Earn Bicycles and Help Community

    Earn a Bike
Nine students completed the Earn a Bike program with Phoenix Bikes this year after a semester of learning bicycle mechanics and making repairs to bikes that were donated to community members.  The group of students donated one bicycle to a fellow Wakefield student for getting to and from work after school.   The students left Phoenix Bikes with their own bicycles and new helmets for completing the program.   Special recognition goes to Debbie Polhemus, Joyce Kelly and Christopher Manaois for sponsoring and assisting with the bike club this year, and coordinating activities for the students during Warriors Period every week to review vocabulary and bike parts.  It was a truly special moment seeing the students leave with bicycles they repaired and refurbished this semester, and it could not have been accomplished without all of their hard work!
